Muse of a Chimbu, PNG

This woman is of the mourning Chimbu tribe. A group of Chimbu women brought a young boy in on a stretcher made of bamboo, his body covered in fresh green moss. He lie motionless, simulating death. He was gently brought to ground and surrounded by the mourning women of his clan. Smeared in white clay, adorned in white sea shells, thick hand woven cloth lie heavy on their shoulders, the women moaned and wept for the lost soul of one of their own.
